About Swaranjali
Swaranjali (An organization registered with the State of Ohio since 1992 and located in Columbus, Ohio) is dedicated to preserving and promoting Hindustani (North Indian) Classical Music and Dance traditions of Indian subcontinent in the Central Ohio. The main activities of Swaranjali are to arrange concerts of exceptional quality by well-known artists from India. Swaranjali is run by volunteers only and functions like a non-profit organization. In addition to arranging performances and workshops in the central Ohio region, it also organizes tours of well-known artists from India to perform in different cities in the United States. Past programs arranged by the organization include those by the 1994 Grammy Award winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Guitar-Mohan Veena), Kala Ramnath, L. Rajam (violin), Santoor recital by Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pt Suresh Talwalkar (Tabla, taalyatra), Pt Sanjeev Abhyankar, Smt Prabha Atre, Pt. Purbayan Chatterji, Pt. Sudhir Phadke, Ustad Shahid Parvez (Sitar), Pt. Ronu Majumdar (Flute), Partho Sarodi, Pt Ulhas Bapat, Smt. Padma Talwalkar, Vijaya Jadhav Gatlewar, Arati Ankalikar, Ganapati Bhat, Pt Bhabanrao Haldankar, Kaivalya Kumar Gurav, Devaki Pandit and Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande (Vocal). In addition to arranging concerts, Swaranjali also facilitates educational activities through Swaranjali School of Music. Formal teaching classes (for all ages) in vocal and instrumental Indian Music (Sitar, Tabla, Harmonium, Keyboard) will be offered by experienced professionals. Kathak dance classes will also be taught. By coordinating with visiting artists from India and local professionals, Swaranjali will facilitate higher-level education in North Indian Classical Music (vocal & instrumental) to interested Central Ohio residents. In addition, Swaranjali has links with the Department of Music, Ohio State University and conducts some of its activities in collaboration with the University.
